Vandy recap

“I thought that was a very big win for us for a number of reasons,” said head coach Ian Duvenhage. “You know we didn’t play a very good match last week at LSU, and I felt it was important that we get back on the right track immediately.”
“Even though doubles wasn’t our most stellar effort of the year, I thought we did a great job in singles especially early on. We talked about being ready to play from the very first point. At some point there I had looked up at the scoreboard and we were up 4-1 in every set at least and on some courts we were up 5-1, except on Rhys’ court, we were on serve at 3-all. So I thought we really had a good start in singles that carried us through. They obviously made it closer towards the end there, but I thought we hung in well and we didn’t panic when they started to change momentum.”
“I also thought that Kris did a great job at finding a way to win the second set and to get momentum in our favor. Rhys did a good job after losing the second set to go down a break and then find a way to break back and get it back on serve… that definitely helped our momentum as a team All in all there were a lot of positives there today and it’s a very good win for us against a really good tennis team, so I told the team to enjoy it for a little bit, but tomorrow we have to get back to work to get ready for Kentucky.”

Georgia got all it wanted up top from East Tennessee State but the Bulldog managed to pull through on all courts to get the 7-0 win – they played 2 extra singles matches as well.

Georgia recap

“There were so many close matches,” said head coach Manuel Diaz. “We had a couple of days off this week in what was the first opportunity we’ve had to give our guys a second day off, and they needed it. Rest and recovery right now is very important in the middle of the season. We may not have been quite as sharp as we had hoped, but it really had more to do with ETSU playing such a great match.”

ETSU recap

“ETSU is a very deep and talented team,” Georgia head coach Manuel Diaz said. “They pushed us to our limits today in every match.”
“I was impressed with their fight and quality of play on every court,” Diaz added. “They are every bit as good as most teams we have played against this year, and we have played some of the best teams in the nation. Coach Zaatini and Coach Rojas have that program pointed in the right direction.”
“By no means am I satisfied with the result, but looking at a positive aspect of the defeat, I can say there is a lot of growth in this young Buccaneer team,” ETSU head coach Yaser Zaatini said. “Even though the score seems lobsided, I thought the guys fought extremely hard and showed courage all across the board.”
“Despite the loss, I believe our team is blossoming and peaking at the right time. We have a long road ahead against some tough teams, but I believe the early challenges of the season are going to help us be ready to cross the finish the line with some speed. I love what I saw from our guys today.”

San Diego recap

“I know the team very well,” Head coach Brett Masi noted after the win. “They play with a lot of emotion and competitiveness. They came out strong in doubles and we just weren’t ready for it today, which was a little disappointing. We haven’t been playing with the quality we need to lately but, we are really proud of how the guys came out in singles.”
“That win will give Romain give him a lot of confidence,” Masi expressed. “For a while, the team has been relying on our top three guys in the tight matches. Today, Ciaran kick-started us at No. 6 wit his win. In the end, it was Romain who had a tough opponent, but chances early to take the match. Yet, he didn’t break down, he stayed tough and played an incredible tiebreaker even after seeing Filip fall in his
“Princeton is another fiery team with a lot of energy and we have to get be ready for it,” Masi said. “If we played the way we did today in the beginning, we are going to struggle in doubles. We are at home which favors us, and we feel pretty good about it. But again, we have to play well. There are five teams that are all ranked within a few spots of one another, so we have to be ready to go. And playing my former assistant coach, Ryan Keckley will be very exciting. We are really looking forward to this match-up.”

Denver recap

“Very proud of the fight and competitiveness of our team today,” said Head Coach Danny Westerman. “USD is very tough, especially on their own courts. We are excited for another great opportunity tomorrow versus a tough Indiana team.”

We had to manage the momentum as the match progressed and I feel like once we saw the finish line, we did a great job of elevating our focus and getting the fourth point.”
