Sunday brings us 3 matches between Top 15 teams with the headliner taking place in Indian Wells between #1 Oklahoma and #3 Baylor.  The other 2 big ones are in Oxford where #13 Ole Miss hosts #15 Florida and in Durham where #6 Duke hosts #12 Wake Forest.  It should also be mentioned that all 3 are rematches from earlier in the year with 2 playing each other during the Kickoff Weekend and the other meeting at the National Indoors.  There’s a full schedule at the bottom of this post with scoring links as well.

#1 Oklahoma (16-1) vs. #3 Baylor (14-2) – 1pm est/10am pst – This will be a rematch from the National Indoor Semifinals which was a match Oklahoma won 4-2 (box score below).  Baylor had its chances in the match and had Mate Zsiga not let a 6-4, 5-2 lead slip away at #5 singles the outcome could have been different.  The only singles court which projects to be a rematch is at #1 singles and that was the only court that didn’t finish last time.  Baylor has been far and away the better team in doubles so the Bears will look to get that early 1-0 lead like they have in every match that the doubles point has been played.  Oklahoma will look to lean on its top 3 in singles as they have all year while Baylor hopes its bottom 3 continues its recent dominance.  Let’s take a look at the lineups and records.

Projected Doubles Lineups
1. #40 Mate Zsiga/Tony Lupieri (BU 2-3) vs. #5 Dane Webb/Axel Alvarez (OU 12-2)
2. #77 Julian Lenz/Diego Galeano (BU 11-1) vs. #69 Alex Ghilea/Andrew Harris (OU 3-3)
3. Vince Schneider/Felipe Rios (BU 11-1) vs. Spencer Papa/Florin Bragusi (OU 0-2)

Doubles Records
Baylor – 15-0 overall & 30-5 on all courts (didn’t play dubs vs. Memphis)
Oklahoma – 9-8 overall & 26-18 on all courts
FYI, the number beside the player’s school is the player’s Universal Tennis Rating as of March 21st.  For more details about UTR check out their website.

Projected Singles Lineups
1. #4 Julian Lenz (BU 14.63) vs. #19 Andrew Harris (OU 14.78)
2. #29 Tony Lupieri (BU 14.21) vs. #7 Axel Alvarez (OU 14.47)
3. #36 Max Tchoutakian (BU 14.15) vs. #26 Dane Webb (OU 14.29)
4. Vince Schneider (BU 13.50) vs. #53 Alex Ghilea (OU 14.13)
5. Mate Zsiga (BU 13.86) vs. Spencer Papa (OU 13.76)
6. Felipe Rios (BU 13.73) vs. Florin Bragusi (OU 13.59)

Dual Match Singles Records:
1.  Lenz 8-2 vs. Harris 10-3
2.  Lupieri 6-4 vs. Alvarez 14-0
3.  Tchoutakian 9-5 vs. Webb 12-1
4.  Schneider 9-2 vs. Ghilea 10-2
5.  Zsiga 6-2 vs. Papa 6-5
6.  Rios 10-1 vs. Bragusi 6-1
Galeano 4-3
#1 singles – Lenz clinched BU’s win over USC with a 6-2, 7-5 win over #8 Yannick Hanfmann while Harris blew out #16 Winston Lin 6-2, 6-2.  These guys were tied at 5-5 in the 3rd set in the first encounter earlier this year in a match filled with as many breaks as holds.  Prediction: Lenz in 3
#2 singles – Lupieri took one on the chin against USC’s Roberto Quiroz falling 6-4, 6-3 while Alvarez ran his winning streak to 14 with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Columbia’s Dragos Ignat.  Prediction:  Alvarez in 2
#3 singles – Tchoutakian came up short against USC’s Eric Johnson losing 6-3, 7-5 which stopped his 4-match winning streak while Webb provided the clincher against Columbia with a 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 win over Max Schnur which means Webb has won 12 of his last 13.  Prediction:  Webb in 2
#4 singles – Schneider saw his 6-match winning streak gets snapped with a 6-2, 7-5 loss to USC’s Jonny Wang while Ghilea’s match against Columbia Ashok Narayana went unfinished with Ghilea trailing 3-2 in the 3rd. Prediction: Schneider in 3.
#5 singles – Zsiga ran his winning streak to 4 with a dominant 6-4, 6-4 win over Max De Vroome while Papa stopped a 4-match losing streak with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Columbia’s Shawn Hadavi.  Prediction:  Zsiga in 2
#6 singles – Rios ran his winning to 10 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over USC’s Nick Crystal which in fact ended Crystal’s own 10-match winning streak while Bragusi suffered his 1st career dual match loss by going down 6-2, 6-4 to Columbia’s Mike Vermeer. Prediction: Rios in 3
I think it’s going to be Baylor’s day and I see the Bears avenging the earlier loss to Oklahoma.  Prediction: Baylor 4-2

#15 Florida (9-5) at #13 Ole Miss (11-4) – 12pm est/11am cst – This will be a rematch from the Kickoff Weekend which saw Ole Miss win 4-3 in Gainesville (box score below).  In that match Ole Miss got it done in singles after dropping the doubles point and I think we’ll see a similar type of result today.  Ole Miss is 9-6 in doubles while Florida is 8-6 so neither team has been too sharp to start off the match.  Ole Miss most likely will be a man down with its #4 William Kallberg recovering from an ankle injury but the Rebels strength is its top 3 and I think that’s where Ole Miss gets it done today. I like Ole Miss in doubles and at 1, 2, and 3 singles in a match that will likely be played indoors at Ole Miss’s 3 court facility due to rain in the area.  If played indoors I’ll go with Ole Miss to win 4-1.  If played outdoors I’ll take Ole Miss 4-2.

Projected Singles Lineup:
1. #64 Diego Hidalgo (UF 14.05) vs. #23 Nik Scholtz (OM 14.13)
2. #78 Elliott Orkin (UF 14.11) vs. #82 Stefan Lindmark (OM 14.18)
3. #99 Maxx Lipman (UF 13.59) vs. Gustav Hansson (OM 13.63)
4. Gordon Watson (UF 13.72) vs. Zvonimir Babic (OM 12.81)
5. Chase Perez-Blanco (UF 13.49) vs. Vinod Gowda (OM 12.79)
6. Josh Wardell (UF 13.04) vs. Ricardo Jorge (OM 13.10)

Match Notes
#32 Ole Miss 2-0; National ranking #32
#13 Florida 2-1; National ranking #13
Order of finish: Doubles (2,1,3); Singles (5,4,1,2,6,3)

#12 Wake Forest (12-4) at #6 Duke (15-2) – 3pm est – Wake Forest is riding a 4-match winning streak while Duke has won 2 in a row since falling to Virginia Tech.  Duke is 14-3 in doubles while Wake is 13-3 so both teams are used to jumping out to a 1-0 lead.  Duke won the 1st meeting during the Kickoff Weekend 4-1 (box score below) but I think Wake is playing much better now and I look for the Demon Deacons to pull off the mild upset by rebounding from dropping the doubles point and by grabbing singles wins at 1, 2, 4 and 6. Prediction: Wake Forest 4-3

Projected Singles Lineup:
1. #63 Noah Rubin (WF 14.80) vs. #11 Nicolas Alvarez (DU 14.27)
