#17 Kevin Anderson (Illinois ’07) lost in the 3rd round to #21 Richard Gasquet 4-6, 7-6, 7-5, 6-4 after defeating #73 Tim Smyczek 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in R1 and #65 Yen-Hsun Lu 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in R2.
#16 John Isner (Georgia ’07) lost in the 2nd round to #45 Jeremy Chardy 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 after defeating #39 Andreas Seppi 7-5, 6-2, 6-3 in R1.
#48 Benjamin Becker (Baylor ’05) retired before the 3rd round after defeating #34 Fernando Verdasco 10-8 in the 5th in R2 and #95 Ruben Bemelmans 6-3, 6-7, 2-6, 7-6, 6-2 in R1.
