USC quickly turned things around in singles by taking five opening sets and Nick Crystal needed just over an hour to finish off David Wilczynski 6-3, 6-1 at #2. Stanford would end up being just as dominant in the second set as USC was in the first because the Cardinal took four second sets while USC’s Jack Jaede forced a split at #5.
So it was a 1-1 match with all five matches into a third set but one by one they came off the board in USC’s favor. Logan Smith made it 2-1 with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 win over Nolan Paige at #3 and then just moments minutes later both Jake DeVine and Thibault Forget would win within seconds of each other at #4 and #6. DeVine beat Sameer Kumar 6-3, 6-7, 6-1 at #4 while Forget got past Brandon Sutter 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 at #6. Below is match point for Smith courtesy of USC:

They played the remaining courts out with Max de Vroome upsetting Tom Fawcett 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 at #1 and then in the final match to conclude it Stanford’s Maciek Romanowicz edging Jack Jaede 6-1, 2-6, 7-6(8) at #5. The below clip from USC shows de Vroome winning it on a nice forehand winner:

The match ended up being a tale of three sets – USC controlled the first, Stanford the second, and in most courts USC dominated in the third.
The story remains the same with Stanford, they put up a good fight every time but they just can’t seem to get over the hump. I also have to take my hat off to USC because they just keep plugging away and they keep finding ways to pull out close matches.
#13 USC 5, #29 Stanford 2

“Today was a total team win. Each guy contributed to the biggest win in program history. To beat Harvard, a perennial top-30 program, on the road is a big step for us. Our guys came out in doubles and really set the tone especially Lucas and Dusan at the three, said Head Coach Eric Rebhuhn. Alan and Vaidik had great poise and came up clutch. Robbie played one of his best matches and kept the momentum. I am really impressed with Andrei and Danny’s ability to come through when we needed them. We have been working hard since January for this opportunity. We were prepared we believed this was our time. I am so proud of our guys and happy for them.

“Everyone needed to take a page out of Chema’s book today,” said Westerman. “He walked onto the court and he played his game. He wasn’t too intimidated out there, he played his tennis, and when he had a chance to come to the net and end a point, he did. So the team can learn from him tonight.”

One of the better stories of the year so far continued to get even better as #18 Kentucky knocked off #64 Indiana 6-1. It's definitely up there because Fawcett had been on fire. I always thought Max de Vroome could be a solid #1 or #2 so maybe this will be the boost in confidence he needs to start winning more close matches.
Wouldn't you say Bobby that de Vroome's win over #4 Fawcett is one of the bigger upsets of the dual match season so far? He actually dominated, though Fawcett played awful, with countless double faults. Maybe it was the wind.
