$10K Kaltenkirchen, Germany, F4 (Clay) – The top seed Yannick Maden (Clemson ’13) won his semifinal match over Jonas Luetjen (Ole Miss ’13) 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 and since Saturday’s schedule was rained out he had to return to the court a few hours later for the finals against #456 Gregoire Jacq. Maden fell behind 3-1 in the opening set before winning seven straight games to take the first set 6-3 and go up 2-0 in the second. Unfortunately for Maden he would lose the next three games and was then forced to retire after twisting his ankle so it went in the books as a 6-3, 2-3 ret. loss.
ATP 250 Nottingham, Great Britain (Grass) – Dominic Inglot (Virginia ’09) and Daniel Nestor knocked off the ATP #7 team of Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo in straight sets. Inglot/Nestor broke from 15/40 to go up 6-5 in the first and then they’d hold from 40/30 to take the opening set 7-5. Inglot/Nestor broke to start the second set and they would have a match point on Dodig/Melo’s 3-5 service game but they weren’t able to convert on the no-ad point. Inglot/Nestor would get broke on the no-ad point to make it 5-5, Dodig/Melo held on no-ad for 6-5, and then Inglot/Nestor held on no-ad to send it to a tiebreak. Inglot/Nestor went up 3-0 in the tiebreak and won a few points later 7-5, 7-6(4).
Inglot has now won 22 professional doubles titles (5 ATP/12 Futures/5 Challenger) and currently holds an ATP doubles ranking of 29.

$42.5K Milan, Italy, Challenger (Clay) – Max Schnur (Columbia ’15) and Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela (Texas ’09) won their first doubles title as a team with a three set win over Alessandro Motti and Hsien-Yin Peng. Motti and Peng won the opening set 6-1 and then the second set was a break-free set that ended up in a tiebreak. The first nine points of the tiebreak went to the server which put Schnur and Reyes-Varela up 5-4 and then they’d win the next two points against serve to take the tiebreak 7-4. Schnur and Reyes-Varela went up 5-0 in the third set supertiebreak and would cruise to the finish line and take it 1-6, 7-6(4), 1-0 (10-5).
It was doubles title No. 21 for Reyes-Varela (18 Futures/3 Challenger) who is now just nine spots off his career high ranking of 100.
Schnur has won eight doubles titles (6 Futures/2 Challengers) and now has a new career high ranking of 130 – not bad for a guy that’s been on tour for a little over 12 months!!

Hach/Van Peperzeel broke a 5-5 tie by taking the last two points to win the tiebreak 7-5. Hach/Van Peperzeel broke at love to go up 2-1 in the second and they’d roll from there to win it 7-6(5), 6-2.

I believe the draws have always been set based off the coaches decision – yes seeds are based off ITA ranking although they've made adjustments for high profile freshman and strong non D1 players.
This invitational is probably the best in the South with its mix of SEC/ACC, some top D2, GGC, and a few midmajors. I cant remember if there were any D3 Emory guys or not. I hope the same mix of schools can attend with the later date; I knew that date would be later for 2016 since UGA has a home football game 9/10.

Bobby, are the ABCD draws for these invitationals set using ITA rankings, coach or host decision, or UTR? I assume the seeds would be set with ITA rankings. Freshmen do play these invitationals so using UTR would help as far as placing them in the right draw. However international freshmen who took a gap year often have UTRs lower than their true ability since they were not able to compete the last 6 months of their gap year. Some train at US academies since they can't compete.
The Southern Intercollegiates in Athens is scheduled for September 23-26.
Hearing that Lovett is looking at Central Florida and Kerznerman is looking at St. John's
Dartmouth was the trendsetter last year too – the rest are hit and miss – if I remember we should starting several others in mid to late July. Last year there were a few that didn't release the spring schedule until November.
any new rumors?
Bobby when do teams start releasing their schedules for next year? Dartmouth released theirs almost a week ago. Was hoping other schools would follow their lead.
No news on any of them – will pass along if I hear something.
It'll probably be another month or so until most team's fall schedules are finished up and released. I haven't seen anything official but I'd think the Southern Intercollegiates would probably be Sept 9-12 – seems like they usually start the Friday after Labor Day. If it isn't the largest it has to be close – I'd think all the usual teams would be there although I wouldn't expect Oklahoma to send anyone this year.
Another irrelevant to topic post-Do you have a list of dates of early fall invitationals-specifically the Southern Intercollegiate at UGA? Checked UGA website but no calendar for 16/17 yet. That is always a fun one with some SEC/ACC teams, some ranked midmajors like GA State and UNCW and even NAIA champ GGC. Do you know which teams will play there this year? Is it the largest invitational-seems like there were about 20 teams last year and 4 different draws. Last year it was mid Sept. Date is also important b/c potential recruits can't schedule an OV to those 20 teams that weekend.
Bobby,
This is not relevant to this particular post, but curious what you are hearing about the transfers from Alabama, Danny K and Korey Lovett, and Chamdani from Duke. Any word on where they are looking?
There was a lot of beating up on teammates these past 2 days.
Jake Douglas (Washington) d. Mitch Stewart (Washington) in the Netherlands.
Michael Genender (Stanford) d. David WIlczynski (Stanford) in Canada.
Logan Staggs (UCLA) d. Gage Brymer (UCLA) in Norcal.
These are all lineup upsets. Interesting to see how next season will pan out.
