will U of Washington make the NCAA mens tournament? if not, will they be in the rankings at least for this upcoming week?
They'll be in the top 50 but only the committee knows if they've made it – they'll either be the last team in or the first team out. Honestly they probably don't deserve a bid after going 1-7 down the stretch but they do have a head-to-win over the team directly in front of them so that may be enough to get them. We'll know in about 10 minutes.
Odd that 5 Big 12 teams are in the lower half of the draw. UT v Baylor and Tcu v Okie State. Not an especially good draw for O U v Ohio state in round of 16.
It is possible Ucla could meet Usc for the 5th time this year. That is rare if not unprecedented.
I would bet against Usc and Ucla meeting again.
Agree re bottom half, it seems loaded w. Three of the hottest teams and power conference Tourney champs TCU, UVa, and OSU.
Since The committee set a precedent by bumping UNC over Vandy and OSU in the women's seedings, seems like they could have advanced TCU over UCLA in men's seedings.
Also, OU better be focused on their regional (MSU) and not be thinking about Ohio St. There are some very interesting and dangerous second round match ups this year.
Ucf should have gone to the Georgia regional.
Compared with the Utsa poll, Unc was the biggest loser dropping from 4 to 9. On the other hand Baylor was the biggest winner climbing to 7. Clearly the Ncaa does not subscibe to the Gang of Eight poll.
5 Big12 teams on the same side of the brackets and 5 of 6 Pac12 teams on the other side does seem a little bit odd. Both conferences are potentially set up to knock their fellow conference members out while other conferences are more spread out. Baylor moving up despite losing three straight (including 2 to Tech, who finished with a losing record) also seems strange. But to be the best, you've got to beat the best, so I think the draw seems fair; albeit tough. If form holds, TCU would have to go through Jackson State, Florida State, Oklahoma State, Ohio State, Virginia and then Wake Forest, which seems pretty formidable. If it gets to TCU-Ohio State, that could be really interesting, with Norrie/Rybakov taking on Torpegaard/Di Feo – I've seen both teams play and they both rely on that 1-2 punch to win. I'm definitely looking forward to it!
SWAC should not have allowed Alabama State to play their Conference knowing they could not accept an NCAA bid, makes the conference look bad, believe they did the same thing in recent past on the women's side with Southern not being allowed to participate.
I agree – if you aren't eligible for the post-season then you shouldn't be eligible for your conference tournament.
