The ITA released its final singles and doubles rankings of the year with both of the NCAA Singles Champions, Thai-Son Kwiatkowski and Brienne Minor, finishing ranked No. 9. TCU’s Cameron Norrie finished at No. 1 in the men’s rankings while Ohio State’s Francesca Di Lorenzo was tops on the women’s side.

Oklahoma’s Andrew Harris and Spencer Papa, who won the NCAA Doubles Championship, finished at No. 1 in the doubles rankings while Pepperdine’s Christine Maddox and Mayar Sherif Ahmed finished at No. 1 in the women’s doubles rankings. The NCAA Women’s Doubles Champs, Ohio State’s Francesca Di Lorenzo and Miho Kowase, finished at No. 3 while the NCAA runner-ups Alabama’s Erin Routliffe and Maddie Pothoff finished at No. 2.

Last week the ITA released its national award winners but with the NCAA team and individual competitions going on the announcement kind of fell through the cracks. Below are this year’s winners and for further details you can check out the ITA’s release.

The one thing I find odd is they don’t have a Player of the Year award for the best player – they have the ITA Senior POY but of course that only goes to a senior. It’s a shame that neither Cameron Norrie or Francesca Di Lorenzo won a national award because in my opinion those were the two best players last season.

Steve Johnson (USC ’12) moved into the third round at the French Open with a hard fought 6-2, 7-6(8), 3-6, 7-6(6) win over ATP #40 Borna Coric. Johnson trailed 4-2 in the fourth set before reeling off three straight games to go ahead 5-4. Johnson had five match points on Coric’s 4-5 service game but Coric managed to hold for 5-5. In the tiebreak, Coric led *6-4 but Johnson took the final four points to close it out. The clip above shows an emotional Johnson talking after the win which came just 3 weeks after the passing of his father, Steve Sr. Next up for Johnson is the No. 6 seed Dominic Thiem.
