Sander GilleBaylor rising junior Juan Benitez won his first career pro titles over the weekend after sweeping singles and doubles at the Morocco F1 Futures in Tanger. In the doubles final, Benitez teamed with Raleigh Smith (Northwestern ’14) to defeat Skander Mansouri (Wake Forest Rising Sr) and Nick Chappell (TCU ’15) 6-4, 7-6(3). Benitez and Smith were actually fortunate to make it out of the opening round because they trailed 9-4 in the third set supertiebreak and then after erasing those five match points they fought off one more before winning 13-11. As fate would have it Benitez and Smith would face each other in the singles final with Benitez getting the win 6-2, 7-6(2). Benitez only dropped one set on the week while Smith won only had one match finish in straight sets prior to the final.
Dominik Koepfer (Tulane ’16) won his second singles title of the year, third career, with a tough 6-7(5), 6-2, 7-5 win over Jose Statham in the finals of the USA F24 Futures in Champaign, Illinois. Koepfer hit 12 aces and held his serve all 16 times while he broke Statham three times including from 30/40 to close it out. Koepfer entered the week with a career-high ranking of 335 but when these 27 points are added in next week he should have a new career-high ranking of around 302.

John Isner (Georgia ’07) won his first ATP singles title in two years with a 6-3, 7-6(4) win over Matthew Ebden in the finals of the ATP 250 Dell Technologies Hall of Fame Open in Newport, Rhode Island. Isner his 17 aces, won 90% of the points on his first serve, and didn’t face a break point all match. Isner only had one break opportunity himself which he converted in the first set. The singles title was the 11th ATP title of Isner’s career and the third time he won in Newport.
Jackson Withrow (Texas A&M ’16) won his fifth doubles title of the year, third at the Challenger-level, with the former Aggie teaming with Bradley Klahn (Stanford ’12) to defeat Hans Hach (Abilene Christian ’13) and Vincent Millot 6-2, 6-3 to win the $75K Challenger Banque Nationale de Gatineau (Canada). Withrow and Klahn cruised through their first two matches before a come from behind 5-7, 7-6(5), 10-5 win over Peliwo and Shapovalov in the semifinals. The doubles title was the second of the year for Klahn and it was his fifth-career Challenger doubles title. Withrow now has a new career-high doubles ranking of 149 while Klahn comes in at 264 which is up 97 spots from the previous week.
Sander Gille (East Tennessee State ’12)/Joran Vliegen (East Carolina ’14) won their fifth doubles title of the year, 23rd career, with a 6-2, 4-6, 12-10 win over Stefanos Tsitsipas and Jozef Kovalik in the finals of the $64K The Hague Open in Scheveningen, Netherlands. Both guys now have new career-high doubles rankings with Vliegen at 116 while Gille is at 122.
