Each of the top three seeds in the singles draws advanced to the Round of 16 but the top seeds in the doubles draws weren’t as fortunate. The top seed in the men’s singles draw, Ohio State’s Mikael Torpegaard, only dropped four games in his straight set win over Texas freshman Christian Sigsgaard while the top seed in the women’s draw, Ohio State’s Francesca Di Lorenzo, only dropped two games in a rout over Nevada’s Claudia Herrero.
Arkansas, Ohio State, Virginia, and Wake Forest each went 2-0 in men’s singles action while Cal and Texas went 0-2. There were two upsets by seed though neither would really be considered upsets. Georgia Tech All-American Chris Eubanks hammered 14 aces and landed 84% of his first serves in a 7-5, 6-7, 6-2 win over the No. 6 seed Texas freshman Yuya Ito while UCLA senior Gage Brymer ousted the No. 5 seed Florida sophomore Alfredo Perez 6-4, 6-7, 6-2. Brymer won 50% of the points on Perez’s second serve which helped paved the way for five breaks of serve.
Arkansas senior Mike Redlicki won 88% of his first serve points and converted four of eleven break points in route to a 6-4, 6-1 win over last year’s runner-up Cal senior Andre Goransson.
Quote from Arkansas’s recap: “It was a good start today for Jose (Salazar) and Mike (Redlicki),” head coach Andy Jackson said. “They both beat high-level players. Jose had a match point in the second set and was down a match point in the third. He was so tough and so smart in those big moments today. Mike played sharp and won in straight sets against a player who was the runner-up here last year. Tomorrow is a big day and both of them will be challenged.”

Cal, North Carolina, Pepperdine, and Vanderbilt each picked up two singles wins on the women’s side while Michigan was on the only school to have its players take two losses.
“It was a great first day,” Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. “We got off to a really good start in singles. We had some good, solid wins. Karla was able to come from behind and win her singles match, which was exciting. We’re looking forward to having everyone competing again tomorrow and playing one match at a time.”
Both of the seeded upsets were caused by players from the state of Oklahoma. Oklahoma junior Lily Miyazaki defeated the No. 6 seed North Carolina freshman Sara Daavettila 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in a match where each player broke serve eight times. Below is a quote from Oklahoma’s recap:
“Lily [Miyazaki] stayed tough today against a tricky opponent that was very good at playing a passive aggressive style,” OU head coach Audra Cohen said. “She was very disciplined with her positioning and shot selection in the third set, which made the difference. I’m proud of her and excited for the next round tomorrow.”
Oklahoma State senior Viktoriya Lushkova defeated the No. 7 seed Miami junior Sinead Lohan 6-4, 6-4. Lushkova broke Lohan five times and won 48% of the points on Lohan’s serve.

Wake Forest’s Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim were the only seeds to make it to the quarterfinals after they won in straight sets over Stanford’s Yale Goldberg and Sameer Kumar. Valparaiso’s Jeffrey Schorsch and Charlie Emhardt won a pair of matches on Thursday including a 7-5, 4-6, 11-9 win over the top seed Cal’s Florian Lakat and Filip Bergevi.
