[3] North Carolina (7-0) vs. [6] Ohio State (9-0) – 9am est – The opening quarterfinal of the day should be a dandy with Ohio State come off a 4-0 rout of Baylor while North Carolina overcame Texas Tech 4-1. North Carolina may be the higher ranked team but I think Ohio State is the team to beat on the bottom of the draw. Ohio State has been downright dominant in doubles over the years and this year is no different with the Buckeyes a perfect 9-0.
Overall Record: North Carolina 7-0, Ohio State 9-0
Indoors Record: North Carolina 7-0, Ohio State 9-0
Doubles Record: North Carolina 5-2, Ohio State 9-0
Projected Singles Lineup w UTR in ( ):
1. Brayden Schnur (UNC 14.09) vs. #5 Mikael Torpegaard (OSU 14.44)
2. #23 Ronnie Schneider (UNC 14.01) vs. #42 Chris Diaz (OSU 13.98)
3. #29 Brett Clark (UNC 13.77) vs. #16 Hugo Di Feo (OSU 14.23)
4. #89 Jack Murray (UNC 13.77) vs. #18 Herkko Pollanen (OSU 13.61)
5. #62 Robert Kelly (UNC 13.85) vs. Ralf Steinbach (OSU 13.84)
6. Anu Kodali (UNC 13.21) vs. Martin Joyce (OSU 13.74)
Projected Doubles Lineup:
1. #3 Robert Kelly/Brett Clark (UNC) vs. #14 Ralf Steinbach/Martin Joyce (OSU)
2. Brayden Schnur/Jack Murray (UNC) vs. #19 Mikael Torpegaard/Herkko Pollanen (OSU)
3. Ronnie Schneider/Blaine Boyden (UNC) vs. Hugo Di Feo/Chris Diaz (OSU)
I like Ohio State in a tight doubles point with wins at #1 and #2 and then in singles I’ll go with Mikael Torpegaard, Hugo Di Feo, and Martin Joyce for the Buckeyes with Ronnie Schneider, Jack Murray, and Robert Kelly for UNC. The doubles point will be the different – Prediction: Ohio State 4-3
[2] Texas A&M (10-0) vs. [7] UCLA (6-1) – 12pm est – Both teams are coming off tough round of 16 matches with UCLA coming from behind to beat Georgia 4-3 while Texas A&M held off Columbia 4-2. The doubles point is going to be huge in this match and it should be a great point with Texas A&M 10-0 in doubles while UCLA is 6-1. The individual doubles matchup to watch will be at #3 with Brymer/Rapp 5-0 while Arconada/Lunkin are 6-0. I think whoever takes the doubles point will take the match.
Overall Record: Texas A&M 10-0, UCLA 6-1
Indoors Record: Texas A&M 2-0, UCLA 1-1
Doubles Record: Texas A&M 10-0, UCLA 6-1

3. Jordi Arconada (TAMU 13.81) vs. #37 Martin Redlicki (UCLA 13.86)
4. Harrison Adams (TAMU 13.05) vs. Karue Sell (UCLA 14.32)
5. AJ Catanzariti (TAMU 13.44) vs. #98 Logan Staggs (UCLA 13.44)
6. Jackson Withrow (TAMU 13.88) vs. Joseph Di Giulio (UCLA 13.52)
O: Max Lunkin (TAMU 13.47)/Austin Rapp (UCLA 13.42)
Projected Doubles Lineup:
1. Arthur Rinderknech/Jackson Withrow (TAMU) vs. #12 M. McDonald/Martin Redlicki (UCLA)
2. Harrison Adams/Shane Vinsant (TAMU) vs. Joseph Di Giulio/Karue Sell (UCLA)
3. #33 Jordi Arconada/Max Lunkin (TAMU) vs. Gage Brymer/Austin Rapp (UCLA)
I’m going to take UCLA at #1 and #2 doubles and in singles I see UCLA getting wins from McDonald, Redlicki, and Sell while Texas A&M picks up wins from Vinsant, Catanzariti, and Withrow. Prediction: UCLA 4-3
[1] Virginia (6-0) vs. [9] Wake Forest (9-1) – 3:30pm est – It’ll be an all-ACC quarterfinal between Virginia and Wake Forest with Virginia coming off a 4-0 win over San Diego while Wake Forest looked really good in a 4-1 win over Oklahoma. Wake Forest will attempt to beat Virginia for the first time since 2003 while Virginia looks to advance to the semifinals after getting knocked out in the quarterfinals last season to Baylor.
Overall Record: Virginia 6-0, Wake Forest 9-1
Indoors Record: Virginia 6-0, Wake Forest 9-1
Doubles Record: Virginia 6-0, Wake Forest 8-2
Projected Singles Lineup w UTR in ( ):
1. #27 Ryan Shane (UVA 14.68) vs. #28 Skander Mansouri (WF 14.29)
2. #2 Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (UVA 14.68) vs. #125 Petros Chrysochos (WF 14.02)
3. Collin Altamirano (UVA 14.25) vs. #79 Jon Ho (WF 14.07)
4. #78 Mac Styslinger (UVA 13.91) vs. Romain Bogaerts (WF 14.01)
5. JC Aragone (UVA 13.86) vs. Dennis Uspensky (WF 13.47)
6. Henrik Wiersholm (UVA 14.36) vs. Christian Seraphim (WF 13.55)
O: Luca Corinteli (UVA 13.52)/Keivon Tabrizi (WF 13.12)
Projected Doubles Lineup:
1. #42 Ryan Shane/Luca Corinteli (UVA) vs. Christian Seraphim/Skander Mansouri (WF)
2. #5 Mac Styslinger/Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (UVA) vs. Petros Chrysochos/Jon Ho (WF)
3. J.C. Aragone/Collin Altamirano (UVA) vs. Romain Bogaerts/Dennis Uspensky (WF)
Wake Forest really needs to take the doubles point to put a little bit of pressure on Virginia and I think they’ve got a decent chance to do so. I’m going to take Wake at #1 and #3 doubles and I think the Demon Deacons will also put some pressure on Virginia at #4 and #5 singles. However in the end Virginia will get it done up top with Ryan Shane, Thai-Son Kwiatkowski, and Collin Altamirano winning at 1, 2, and 3 plus Henrik Wiersholm will win at #6. I think Bogaerts and Uspensky will be up at #4 and #5 but Virginia will get the clinch before those matches finish. I expect this to be a pretty competitive match and wouldn’t be surprised to see Mansouri and Ho push Shane and Altamirano to third sets. Prediction: Virginia 4-1
[4] USC (6-0) vs. [5] TCU (4-1) – 6:30pm est – TCU is coming off an impressive 4-0 win over Illinois while USC scratched and clawed its way to a 4-3 win over South Florida. TCU is comfortable with its lineup but it’ll be interesting to see if Peter Smith makes a move at #5 or sticks with Verboven. If he pulls Verboven, he would have to move Forget up from #6 to #5 and most likely Jack Jaede would get the call at #6. USC overcame the loss of the doubles point to still beat South Florida but I don’t see that happening against TCU.
Overall Record: USC 6-0, TCU 4-1
Indoors Record: USC 1-0, TCU 3-1
Doubles Record: USC 4-2, TCU 4-1
Projected Singles Lineup w UTR in ( ):
1. #33 Nick Crystal (USC 14.05) vs. #6 Cameron Norrie (TCU 14.51)
2. Max de Vroome (USC 13.95) vs. #122 Alex Rybakov (TCU 14.68
3. #104 Jake DeVine (USC 13.56) vs. #38 Guillermo Nuez (TCU 14.17)
4. #43 Logan Smith (USC 13.87) vs. Eduardo Nava (TCU 13.97)
5. Laurens Verboven (USC 13.56) vs. Jerry Lopez (TCU 13.64)
6. Thiabault Forget (USC 13.36) vs. Trevor Johnson (TCU 13.75)
O: Jack Jaede (USC 13.52)/Reese Stalder (TCU 12.90)
Projected Doubles Lineup:
1. Nick Crystal/Laurens Verboven (USC) vs. Cameron Norrie/Trevor Johnson (TCU)
2. Max de Vroome/Jack Jaede (USC) vs. Hudson Blake/Reese Stalder (TCU)
3. Rob Bellamy/Jake DeVine (USC) vs. Alex Rybakov/Guillermo Nunez (TCU)
I look for TCU to pick up wins at #1 and #3 doubles and then the Horned Frogs will lean on USC in singles and will get wins from Cameron Norrie, Alex Rybakov, and Jerry Lopez at 1, 2, and 5. USC’s best chances to win will come from Jake DeVine and Logan Smith. Prediction: TCU 4-1
Consolation Matches
[11] Baylor (5-3) vs. [14] Texas Tech (10-1) – 9am est –
Live Scoring – I expect Baylor’s woes to continue and forecast a Texas Tech win with the Red Raiders taking the doubles point and picking up wins from Cailleau, Curry, and Thomson at 4, 5, and 6. Baylor will get a win from Lenz at 1.
Prediction: Texas Tech 4-1
Projected Singles Lineup w UTR in ( ):
1. #19 Julian Lenz (BU 14.68) vs. #11 Felipe Soares (TT 14.08)

3. Jimmy Bendeck/Felipe Rios (BU) vs. Jolan Cailleau/Connor Curry (TT)
[10] Georgia (3-2) vs. [15] Columbia (4-1) – 12pm est – Live Scoring – This will be the third year in a row that these teams have played with Georgia winning 4-3 in the NTI consolation draw last season and 4-2 the year prior during the Kick-Off Weekend. I think Columbia will take the doubles point and will pick up wins from Eric Rubin and Mike Vermeer at 3 and 4 but Georgia will get wins from Wayne Montgomery, Austin Smith, Emil Reinberg, and Nick Wood at 1, 2, 5, and 6. Prediction: Georgia 4-3
Projected Singles Lineup w UTR in ( ):
1. #22 Wayne Montgomery (UGA 14.18) vs. Shawn Hadavi (CU 13.75)
2. #40 Austin Smith (UGA 14.23) vs. #108 Victor Pham (CU 13.92)

Projected Doubles Lineup:
1. #13 Austin Smith/Ben Wagland (UGA) vs. #15 Shawn Hadavi/Richard Pham (CU)
2. Paul Oosterbaan/Jan Zielinski (UGA) vs. #20 Mike Vermeer/Michal Rolski (CU)
3. #43 Wayne Montgomery/Emil Reinberg (UGA) vs. Eric Rubin/Christopher Grant (CU)
[12] Illinois (5-2) vs. [13] South Florida (3-2) – 3:30pm est – Live Scoring – These teams faced each other in mid-January in a hidden-dual format at the Three Oaks Shootout with Illinois taking 5 of 7 singles matches while USF took 3 of 4 doubles matches. This is one of those matches where you have to wonder if both teams will really be that motivated after some tough losses yesterday. South Florida was right there with USC while Illinois got beat handily by TCU. Assuming everyone shows up ready to play I’ll take Illinois in doubles and Vukic, A Hiltzik, and Childers in singles while Cotrone, Bertran, and Kalyuzhnyy win for USF. Prediction: Illinois 4-3
Projected Singles Lineup w UTR in ( ):
1. #12 Aleks Vukic (ILL 14.29) vs. #7 Roberto Cid (USF 14.53)
2. #10 Jared Hiltzik (ILL 14.18) vs. #26 Dominic Cotrone (USF 14.44)
3. #69 Aron Hiltzik (ILL 13.66) vs. Sasha Gozun (USF 13.71)
4. Julian Childers (ILL 13.36) vs. Justin Roberts (USF 13.11)
5. Brian Page (ILL 12.43) vs. Peter Bertran (USF 13.08)
6. Asher Hirsch (ILL 12.75) vs. Vadym Kalyuzhnyy (USF 13.37)
O: Alex Jesse (ILL 12.97)/Pengxuan Jiang (ILL 12.64)
Projected Doubles Lineup:
1. Jared Hiltzik/Alex Jesse (ILL) vs. #40 Justin Roberts/Dominic Cotrone (USF)
2. Aleks Vukic/Aron Hiltzik (ILL) vs. Sasha Gozun/Vadym Kalyuzhnyy (USF)
3. Brian Page/Julian Childers (ILL) vs. Roberto Cid/Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz (USF)
[8] Oklahoma (3-3) vs. [16] San Diego (4-2) – 6:30pm est – Live Scoring – The defending champs got knocked out by Wake Forest yesterday while San Diego lost to Virginia. This is a match Oklahoma should win but San Diego may offer some resistance in a few spots. I’ll take San Diego in doubles and Jordan Angus in singles but I like Axel Alvarez, Alex Ghilea, Florin Bragusi, Maxime Mora, and Andre Biro for OU. Prediction: Oklahoma 4-2
Projected Singles Lineup w UTR in ( ):
1. #60 Axel Alvarez (OU 14.52) vs. #20 Uros Petronijevic (USD 14.07)
2. Spencer Papa (OU 13.98) vs. #24 Jordan Angus (USD 13.97)
3. #85 Alex Ghilea (OU 14.09) vs. Filip Vittek (USD 13.55)
4. Florin Bragusi (OU 13.85) vs. #120 Romain Kalaydjian (USD 13.26)
5. Maxime Mora (OU 13.56) vs. Josh Page (USD 13.00)
6. Andre Biro (OU 13.74) vs. #98 Jaan Kononov (USD 13.63)
Projected Doubles Lineup:
1. #37 Andrew Harris/Alex Ghilea (OU) vs. #18 Jordan Angus/Filip Vittek (USD)
2. #57 Axel Alvarez/Spencer Papa (OU) vs. Josh Page/Uros Petronijevic (USD)
3. Austin Siegel/Andre Biro (OU) vs. Romain Kalaydjian/Jaan Kononov (USD)
One impression gained this far is that the bottom half of the draw has more quality teams than the top half. Possibly 6 of the top 8 teams ended up on that side.
