D2 Power Armstrong State To Merge With Georgia Southern; Conference Preseason Polls; Time To Serve Em’ Up

It looks like the 13-time NCAA Division II Championship tennis teams at Armstrong State University in Savannah, Georgia, are on borrowed time after news of yesterday’s merger with nearby Georgia Southern University.  The merger, which is expected to take 18 months to complete, will combined the two schools with the Georgia Southern name being retained while the Armstrong State name and history will most likely fall by the wayside. American Collegiate Invitational, Hainline To Receive Achievement Award, Coaching News, US Open Results

The third annual American Collegiate Invitational begins tomorrow at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center with an eight-person draw in both men’s and women’s singles. The fields are comprised of the top two players in the ATP/WTA rankings (as of July 18) and the top five players in the year-end Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles rankings (excluding those selected by pro ranking), including at least two graduating seniors or players who have turned pro/exhausted their collegiate eligibility. The draws for the US Open National Playoff were released today with Nick Meister (UCLA ’12) the top seed on the men’s side and Ayaka Okuno (semester at Georgia in 2013) is the top seed on the women’s side. The doubles draws should be out soon with singles getting underway on Friday in New Haven, CT. Below are the draws with Universal Tennis Ratings listed as of 8/19.
