New Rankings Out With Little Change; Buckeyes Win a Pair; UCLA Blanks Grand Canyon; Aussie Open Update

The new ITA rankings came out on Wednesday with no change in the women’s rankings and only a few minor changes on the men’s side. As I mentioned in my post yesterday the only ranked women’s teams to play a dual-match so far have been Georgia Tech and South Carolina with both winning over the weekend. On the men’s side Cal and Georgia had been tied for fifth but now Cal is in sole position of fifth while Georgia fell back to sixth – I guess the national ranking committee wasn’t impressed with Georgia going 9-11 in singles over the weekend at the MLK Invitational. Alabama missed out on last year’s NCAA Tournament by one spot so in the offseason men’s head coach George Husack overhauled the roster and brought in five newcomers. On Monday afternoon all five of those newcomers were in the lineup and played a pivotal roll in the Crimson Tide’s tight 4-2 win over East Tennessee State. Tulsa Edges Wichita State; Texas Sweeps a Pair; Australia Open Draws Released

It didn’t take long to have our first dual-match that was decided by the final court but that’s what happened on Thursday night in Tulsa inside The Case. Tulsa, which hosted last year’s NCAA Championships, jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the defending Missouri Valley Conference Champs Wichita State after rallying to take the doubles point and picking up straight set wins from Majed Kilani and Daniel Santos at No. 2 and No. 6. Duke Finishes Strong in Hawaii; Holt & Riley Smith Earn First ATP Points in Long Beach

Duke finished it’s stay at the Rainbow Warrior Classic by taking four of six doubles matches over LSU plus the Blue Devils came out on top in four of seven singles matches with two of the losses due to retirement.  Ole Miss and Hawaii played an actual dual match with the Rebels posting a 7-0 shutout. Ole Miss/Duke Split Singles in Hawaii While LSU Blanks Hawaii; Pro Circuit Update Including Australian Open Qualies

Ole Miss got the better of Duke in doubles at the Rainbow Warrior Classic but the two split six singles matches with Ole Miss winning at the top three slots while Duke took the bottom three. LSU and Hawaii also played on Tuesday with LSU winning five of eight doubles matches and all seven singles matches however Hawaii did force a third set in three of them.
