Saturday was a busy day out west with USC and Baylor advancing to the finals of the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Tennis Challenge while Oregon defeated Tulane to win the San Diego Spring Break Tournament. Virginia played its first competitive match in a month and dominated Notre Dame in South Bend. For the second down in a row the Bay Area delivered some high quality but on Saturday the big winners were the visitors from the Lone Star State. TCU came into the weekend ranked just outside the top 30 with a 5-4 record but they’ll head to Santa Barbara three games over .500 after coming back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat No. 41 Stanford 4-3. TCU made a doubles lineup adjustment by dropping an ailing Reese Stalder from No. 1 to No. 3 and moving Cameron Norrie up from No. 3 to No. 1 in an attempt to find a way to sweep the top two courts. It seems like usually when USC and UCLA meet the match comes down to a deciding court but that was not the case tonight. USC jumped out to the early 1-0 lead after picking up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 and then the Trojans took four opening sets in singles. Three weeks ago when these teams met Thibault Forget lost to Austin Rapp in three sets at No. 4 but tonight Forget cruised to a straight set win over Rapp at No. 5. In the last meeting, USC freshman Brandon Holt lost the decider to Martin Redlicki 6-4 in the third but tonight Holt got revenge with a straight set win which made it 3-0. For the third year in a row a doubles team from Oklahoma State won the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship as seniors Lucas Gerch and Arjun Kadhe defeated Stanford’s Jack Barber and William Genesen 6-3, 6-4 in the final. Kadhe won the title last year with Julian Cash while Gerch won it in 2015 with Nicolai Ferrigno. North Carolina and Baylor each picked up wins on Monday afternoon with North Carolina getting it done on the road while Baylor won at home. North Carolina went to Nashville and took out Vanderbilt 6-1 despite playing without its No. 1 Ronnie Schneider.
