Third-ranked Virginia had its seniors on display on Thursday against No. 18 Georgia Tech and In front of a senior-day crowd of just under 1000 the Cavs rolled to a 6-1 win. Virginia took the early 1-0 lead after Thai-Son Kwiatkowski and Alexander Ritschard broke Georgia Tech to close out a 6-4 win at No. 2. The singles portion of the match was pretty lopsided with Alexander Ritschard, Collin Altamirano, Carl Soderlund, and Henrik Wiersholm each only yielding five total games. The next set of ITA rankings will be coming out on Tuesday afternoon and I have the top 35 for you on my rankings tab. The Wake Forest/Virginia match on Friday will not be a 1 vs. 2 matchup but it’ll be close. I included the Stanford/Illinois match from today but the TCU/Texas A&M match going on Monday night shouldn’t be included since it didn’t start until after the 5 p.m. ET cutoff however in the past few weeks some matches have counted that finished later on Monday. It’s hard to believe but the first conference tournament gets started in three weeks with the bulk then coming the following two weeks after that. There will be 30 conference tournaments this year with each winner earning an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. The only conference that does not have a tournament is the Ivy League which awards its automatic berth to the regular season champion. The only school that won’t be able to defend its title will be Coastal Carolina who won the Big South last year but is now in the Sun Belt.
