This past week was a good one for recent NCAA singles champions with the 2016 champ Mackenzie McDonald winning the $100K Fairfield Challenger while the 2017 champ Thai Kwiatkowski won the $25K Houston Futures. Prior to last week McDonald’s best performance at the Challenger-level was the semifinals but he plowed past that point with a straight set win over Australia’s Christopher O’Connell and then in the finals he defeated Bradley Klahn 6-4, 6-2. McDonald earned a $14,400 payday plus he picked up 90 ATP ranking points which moved him up to a new career-high ranking of 164. .@mackiemacster reflects on his maiden #ATPChallenger title...

There were no ITF pro circuit events in the United States this week but players with college ties still had plenty of success across the globe. University of Miami (FL) rising senior Sinead Lohan won her second career singles title after defeating Alicia Barnett (Northwestern ’16) in the final of the ITF $15K in Cantanhede, Portugal. Lohan jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first set and took it 6-2 but Barnett came back in the second and after going up 3-0 she took the set 6-4. Lohan bounced back in the third set and opened up a 5-0 lead. Barnett broke Lohan from 15/40 to get on the board but Lohan broke back in a one-deuce game to close it out 6-2, 4-6,...

All summer long we’ve seen players with college ties make their mark on the doubles side and this week has been no exception. Seven former college players and two current players won doubles title this week at the Futures-level while another nine with college ties finished as runner-up. Texas A&M rising sophomore Hady Habib won his first professional title when he and Ankit Chopra won the doubles title at the Sri Lanka F3 Futures in Colombo. Habib and Chopra came back from a set down to defeat Chandril and Lakshit Sood 2-6, 7-5, 10-8. Habib joins Arthur Rinderknech, Austin Krajicek, Jackson Withrow, and Junior Ore as Aggies that have won pro doubles...

While most of us were feasting on turkey and stuffing last week there were several guys and gals that were out on the pro tour taking care of business. Marcelo Arevalo (Tulsa ’11*) and Alejandro Gomez (Kentucky ’14) won singles titles in their home countries while Aleksandr Nedovyesov (Oklahoma State ’10), Catherine Harrison (UCLA ’16), and Maddie Kobelt (Syracuse ’14) won doubles titles in their backyards.
