East Tennessee State Athletic Director Dr. Richard Sander announced the hiring of Martin Stiegwardt as the Buccaneers new Director of Tennis and Men’s Tennis Head Coach. Stiegwardt had spent the last six seasons as an assistant coach at three different schools (VCU/Auburn/LSU) with his most recent stop at LSU last season. Stiegwardt replaced Yaser Zaatini who resigned after 14 season due to allegations of falsified documents. Georgia Tech junior Chris Eubanks accepted a main draw wild card into the BB&T Atlanta Open, which is an ATP 250 event, with his opening round match scheduled for Tuesday, July 25. Eubanks has played in the main draw of the Atlanta event two years in a row though he had to go through qualies last year to do so. Eubanks has been ranked in the ITA Top 10 all year and was recently named the ACC Men’s Player of the Year for the second year in a row. A good crowd of around 100 gathered in Memphis for the finals of the American Conference Championship where South Florida was looking to win the title for the third consecutive year. South Florida and Tulsa met just nine days prior with USF winning 7-0 though Tulsa sat its top singles player Or Ram-Harel so this one figured to be much closer.The top seeded Bulls got off to a good start at No. 1 doubles while Tulsa went up an early break at No. 2.
