Hayley Carter accomplished just about everything there was to accomplish in her four years at North Carolina but instead of continuing her playing career on the pro tour she has decided to start her coaching career. Oklahoma State women’s head coach Chris Young announced on Thursday that Carter will become the Cowgirls new women’s assistant coach replacing Matt Manasse who left to take the same position at Duke. Both of the top seeds from Ohio State pushed one step closer to singles championships but they’ll have experienced seniors on the oppostie side of the net on Sunday morning. Ohio State junior Mikael Torpegaard cruised past a pair of opponents on Friday but there’d be no cruising in the semifinals against Mississippi State sophomore Nuno Borges. Torpegaard broke Borges to start the match and held for 2-0 but Borges broke back and held to even it at 2-2. Ohio State sophomore Francesca Di Lorenzo just started her second year of collegiate tennis but she’s already claimed two Grand Slams after winning the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships. Di Lorenzo was playing her fifth match of the week while her opponent, UCLA freshman Ena Shibahara, was taking the court the 11th time since beginning the pre-qualifying rounds nine days earlier. Shibahara started the match off with a hold and break but Di Lorenzo broke back and held to even it at 2-2. Yesterday I gave you the men’s preseason rankings and today here are the women’s preseason individual rankings. These preseason rankings are simply last year’s final rankings with all the graduating seniors removed along with those that turned pro or are taking the fall off to play pro events.
