The number of head coaching jobs at Power 5 schools is now up to six after LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva announced on Monday that men’s head coach Jeff Brown was resigning after 20 years. Brown won just over 60 percent of the 517 matches he coached and was an even .500 against SEC competition. Brown’s LSU teams advanced to the NCAA Tournament 17 times however this year the Tigers fell well short after going 10-17 overall and just 3-9 in the SEC. The fall season is underway and most coaching openings have been filled some with new hires and some with interims. Mike Edles announced his retirement at UC Irvine on September 1st and it was announced yesterday that assistant coach Elizabeth Ferris had been elevated to interim women’s coach for the upcoming season. Big East:St. John’s repeated as Big East Champions with a 4-2 win over #2 Marquette. The Red Storm took the doubles point with 8-5 wins at 1 and 3 and then Lucas Hejhal extended the lead to 2-0 with a 7-5, 6-2 win at #1. Marquette answered with wins from Kris Trukov and Mackenzie Stearns at 4 and 5 to tie it at 2 but St. John’s Robert Livi would put STJ back up 3-2 with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 win at #3.
