The NCAA released the Division 1 men’s and women’s brackets on Monday evening with very few surprises. As it was a year ago, geography playing a major role in deciding who went where with some regionals much tougher than others while a few were much weaker than others. On the men’s side, Columbia, which is the No. 16 national seed, will welcome in Monmouth, Bryant, and Penn State which in the past would have been a 4, 4, and 3 regional seed. The NCAA released the singles and doubles selections for the upcoming NCAA Championships and as expected the field was full of players from the Power 5 Conferences. 11 of the 64 men’s singles selections came from outside of the Power 5 but only 1 of those came via an at-large with the rest being automatic qualifiers. Out of the 64 women’s singles selections there were 15 from outside of the Power 5 with 4 from the West Coast Conference picking up at-large bids. The final USTA Top 25 of the regular season came out today with the Florida women remaining at No. 1 while the Virginia men replaced Wake Forest as the new men’s No. 1. Virginia defeated Wake Forest in the ACC Championship Final on Sunday to finish the regular season 28-1 while Wake Forest finished with a 27-2 record.
