The opening day of the 2017 Men’s National Team Indoor Championships is in the books and it was an action packed day that saw one exciting dual-match after another. Each of the four time slots had at least one close match and the 3:30 time slot had two close ones. The top two seeds, Virginia and Wake Forest, faced the least resistance while the No. 3 seed Ohio State faced some resistance but managed to close out enough courts before Oklahoma could get on the board. This past weekend was the first chance for several teams to knock the dust off their racquets and it was also our first chance to see some of the freshmen and January roster additions in action. New Oklahoma men’s head coach Nick Crowell announced the hiring of Nate Feldman as the Sooners’ new assistant coach. Feldman, who played at Minnesota from 2002 to 2004, was the assistant coach under Jay Udwadia at Oklahoma State for the last two seasons. He also has head coaching experience after leading both the men’s and women’s teams at Norfolk State from 2011 to 2014. New Oklahoma women’s coach Audra Cohen announced the hiring of Amy Sargeant as the Sooners new assistant coach. Sargeant played at Florida State from 2010 to 2013 and was the assistant coach at New Mexico last season.
