For a while on Sunday it looked like the top ranked team in the land was going down but when the going got tough the tough got going. Wake Forest started off the day by claiming the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 but Georgia Tech came back strong in singles and took five opening sets. Georgia Tech junior Chris Eubanks tied the match at 1-1 with a fairly routine 6-1, 6-4 win over the ITA second-ranked Petros Chrysochos at No. 1. Thursday was a busy day in the SEC with eight teams in action since the conference is playing on Thursday and Saturday this week. Three of the four matches saw the road team pick up a win while No. 17 Kentucky was the only team to win at home. TCU finished off its West Coast trip with another win while just down the road UCLA knocked off Duke. South Carolina rallied from a 3-1 deficit on the road to defeat Arkansas 4-3. Duke finished it’s stay at the Rainbow Warrior Classic by taking four of six doubles matches over LSU plus the Blue Devils came out on top in four of seven singles matches with two of the losses due to retirement. Ole Miss and Hawaii played an actual dual match with the Rebels posting a 7-0 shutout. Ole Miss got the better of Duke in doubles at the Rainbow Warrior Classic but the two split six singles matches with Ole Miss winning at the top three slots while Duke took the bottom three. LSU and Hawaii also played on Tuesday with LSU winning five of eight doubles matches and all seven singles matches however Hawaii did force a third set in three of them. George Washington Director of Athletics Patrick Nero announced the hiring of David Macpherson as the Colonials new men’s tennis coach. Macpherson had been the Bryan Brothers coach since 2005 after having a successful pro career that lasted almost 20 years. Macpherson replaces Greg Munoz who resigned in the middle of his 10th season to become the Tennis Director at the Jakarta Tennis Academy in Indonesia.
