Georgia Gwinnett Keeps On Winning, March 7th Oracle/ITA Team Rankings

Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville, Georgia, began playing tennis at the NAIA-level in the fall of 2012 and since then they’ve been an unstoppable force. The Grizzles came into this season as the 3-time defending NAIA National Champions after going a perfect 26-0 last season. This morning GGC hosted Hawai’i Pacific in a battle of No. 1s with GGC the top ranked team in the NAIA while HPU is the top ranked team in Division II. March 1st USTA Rankings Release, Purdue Chugs Past Illinois, Draws Out For Pacific Coast Doubles Championship, ITA Ann Lebedeff Leadership Award

The USTA released its top 25 on Wednesday with no change in either the men’s or women’s top 4. The women’s top four of Florida, North Carolina, Ohio State, and Stanford were all unanimous selections while the men’s top four of Virginia, Ohio State, Wake Forest, and North Carolina was near-unanimous with Wake missing out by just one vote. Northwestern and South Carolina were the only men’s schools to move more than two spots with Northwestern falling five spots to No. 18 while South Carolina fell three spots to No. 25. February 28th Oracle/ITA Team Rankings, Men’s Hall of Fame Inductees, Cameron Norrie Story

The ITA released its second set of computerized team rankings today and we now have a new mens No. 1 with Ohio State taking over the top spot while Virginia drops to No. 2. Wake Forest stayed at No. 3, Oklahoma moved up one spot to No. 4, and Oklahoma State moved up three spots to No. 5. This set of rankings used each team’s five best wins and all losses so even though Virginia had the head-to-head victory Ohio State’s body of work at this point in the season was just a little bit better. The USTA released its top 25 on Wednesday with both the Virginia men and Florida women unanimous No. 1s. Ohio State and Wake Forest were unanimous No. 2 and No. 3 on the men’s side while North Carolina and Cal were No. 4 and No. 5. February 21st Oracle/ITA Women’s Team/Singles/Doubles Rankings – Full Breakdown!

As I mentioned yesterday in my men’s recap this set of rankings is the first set of computerized team rankings after having a ranking committee make all the selections up until now. The computer ranks teams based off their four best wins with all losses also included in the equation. The teams that racked up a lot of wins with very few losses were rewarded while the ones that haven’t played much were penalized. If you team is lower than expected be patient; if your team is higher than expected don’t become overly confident.
