Pro Circuit Recap – Rosca Repeats in Egypt, Hernandez-Fernandez Wins at Home in the Dominican, Two Straight For Saraiva/Verbeek & Kadhe

Incoming TCU freshman Andreea Rosca won a second consecutive pro singles title in Cairo and also picked up a doubles title as well. Rosca only dropped 18 games in her five singles wins with just four of those coming in the final in a 6-1, 6-3 win over Austria’s Melanie Klaffner. Rosca will have a new career-high singles ranking of around 601 when these 12 points are added in next week. Rosca and Gabriela Tatarus won the doubles title with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Klaffner and Jelena Stojanovic. Great Day For Doubles – Venus/Harrison Win French Open; Alcantara/Verbeek Singing In Singapore, Dougaz/Mansouri Take Tunisia, Santamaria/Tere-Apisah First in Delaware

Prior to this week Michael Venus (LSU ’09) had never made it past the round of 16 at a grand slam but today he and Ryan Harrison are French Open doubles champions after the duo defeated Donald Young and Santiago Gonzalez in a tough three-setter. There were no breaks of serve in the first two sets with Venus and Harrison taking the first set 7-6(5) while Young and Gonzalez claimed the second set 7-6(4). In the third and final set, Venus and Harrison broke for 4-2 but Young and Gonzalez broke back in a four-deuce game for 4-3. Team USA came to France seeking to win a sixth straight Master’U BNP Paribas and that’s exactly what they did after defeating Russia 4-1. North Carolina senior Hayley Carter kicked off the day with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Alena Tarasova but Russia countered with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 win by Vladimir Korolev (13.44) over Northwestern senior Strong Kirchheimer (14.14). Ohio State sophomore Francesca Di Lorenzo (12.55) put Team USA back in front with a 7-6(2), 7-5 win over Viktoria Kamenskaya (WTA 190/12.60) and then Georgia Tech junior Chris Eubanks (14.45) made it 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ivan Davydov (13.44).
