Friday NCAA Tournament Recap; All National Seeds Win; Miami & Ga Tech Win Thrillers & Princeton Takes Out Northwestern; Florida State & South Florida Men Advance; UCSB Edges Texas Tech; South Alabama Likes Starkville; Vandy Edges Notre Dame

The opening day of the 2019 NCAA Tournament was plagued by rain at many sites but despite the delays most of the matches went according to plan with all the national seeds in action advancing though in the 2 vs. 3 matches (I know they don’t refer to them that way anymore but I will) there were several close ones. All 16 men’s sites were supposed to complete their first round matches on Friday but rain wiped out play in College Station at the indoor-less Texas A&M Regional so they’ll play on Saturday and Sunday. 7 of the 16 women’s sites played on Friday with the matches in Stillwater being played indoors while Kansas and Denver...

Eubanks Get Wild Card Into BB&T Open, NCAA D2 Results, NCAA D3 & NAIA Brackets Revealed, D1 Men’s Regional Previews (North Carolina, California, UCLA, Texas A&M, Georgia, USC)

Georgia Tech junior Chris Eubanks accepted a main draw wild card into the BB&T Atlanta Open, which is an ATP 250 event, with his opening round match scheduled for Tuesday, July 25. Eubanks has played in the main draw of the Atlanta event two years in a row though he had to go through qualies last year to do so. Eubanks has been ranked in the ITA Top 10 all year and was recently named the ACC Men’s Player of the Year for the second year in a row. USC Upends UCLA, Baylor Bears Down to Beat UCSB, Central Florida Rallies Past Penn State, Mississippi State Mugs Alabama

It seems like usually when USC and UCLA meet the match comes down to a deciding court but that was not the case tonight. USC jumped out to the early 1-0 lead after picking up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 and then the Trojans took four opening sets in singles. Three weeks ago when these teams met Thibault Forget lost to Austin Rapp in three sets at No. 4 but tonight Forget cruised to a straight set win over Rapp at No. 5. In the last meeting, USC freshman Brandon Holt lost the decider to Martin Redlicki 6-4 in the third but tonight Holt got revenge with a straight set win which made it 3-0. Santa Clara Athletic Director Renee Baumgartner announced the hiring of Niall Angus as the Broncos’ new men’s head coach. Angus, who graduated from Texas A&M in 2013, joined the staff last year as an assistant coach.
