It was senior day in Raleigh but unfortunately for the host Wolfpack they only had five healthy players and their opponent happened to be No. 1 Wake Forest. Wake took the doubles point after only dropping three games and then the Deacs won five of six matches in singles with NC State freshman Alexis Galarneau salvaging the day for the Pack with a win over Borna Gojo at No. 2. The women’s SEC Tournament in Nashville had it all on Thursday with three matches coming down to the final court and one that started outside on the back courts and then and finished inside on just five courts after the rain came. Mississippi State won the opener over...

Third-ranked Virginia had its seniors on display on Thursday against No. 18 Georgia Tech and In front of a senior-day crowd of just under 1000 the Cavs rolled to a 6-1 win. Virginia took the early 1-0 lead after Thai-Son Kwiatkowski and Alexander Ritschard broke Georgia Tech to close out a 6-4 win at No. 2. The ITA and Universal Tennis have entered into a five-year partnership agreement which will have the UTR name attached to the ITA Summer Circuit plus all Summer Circuit events will utilize the UTR Event Management System. The ITA and Universal Tennis will work together to make the draws at each Summer Circuit event more level-based so I would hope going forward we won’t see many instances of a player with a 12.85 UTR taking on a player with a 10.25 UTR in the first round of an event. The announcement about the use of UTR Events will be appreciated by yours truly because I “tried” to cover some of the Summer Circuit events last year but...

There are plenty of ranked versus ranked matches this week though only a handful of top 10 tilts. I mentioned three of the bigger men’s and women’s matches in my What To Watch article on the ITA’s site and down below I’ve got a list of all the matches to keep an eye on this weekend. There are two tournaments on the men’s side with Texas A&M Corpus Christi hosting the HEB Tournament of Champions while Pacific and New Mexico will co-host the Pacific Mountain Invitational. South Alabama is the only top 50 team at the HEB while Cal Poly is the only top 50 team at the PMI. Top ranked Ohio State hosts a pair of top 30...

There is another exciting weekend of dual-match action coming up with 15 matches taking place between top 25 teams with eight of those on the women’s side and the other seven on the men’s side. Four of the seven men’s matches take place at one site with No. 11 Florida hosting the fourth edition of the Pac-12/SEC Showdown. Florida and No. 5 Georgia will each play No. 6 UCLA and No. 8 USC in what has been a one-sided showdown over the last three years with the Pac-12 schools going a combined 8-2. Top ranked Virginia opens up its season with a three-match road swing through the Ohio Valley. The Cavaliers go to Vanderbilt on Friday, No. 15...
